Editorial Services

To book an editorial service, email me at sarah@nextchapteredits.com with the following:

  • Subject Line: “[Editorial Service requested] + [Title of your novel]”

  • Email should include: genre, final word count, and short description of the plot. Please also share a brief note about yourself and your publishing goals (e.g. planning to self-publish, preparing to query agents, already agented and/or published, etc.).

  • If requesting a full manuscript service, please include the first five pages of your novel pasted into the body of the email.

  • Payments are accepted via PayPal or Zelle. Please indicate your preference in your email. You can also book directly via Reedsy (see Contact page).

  • Full Manuscript Services are usually scheduled two to three months in advance.

  • Please allow two to three business days for a response to your email.

  • Please review the AI/ChatGPT Policy on the What I Edit page before booking.

FLAT RATE SERVICES:

QUERY CRITIQUE - $150.00

  • Line-edited query letter with margin notes on querying best practices, structure and format, how to stand out to agents in the right ways, and market insight.

  • Includes two editorial passes on your query letter and follow-up questions.

SUBMISSION PACKAGE - $650.00

  • Query Letter Critique

    • Line-edited query letter with margin notes on best practices, how to stand out to agents in the right ways, and market insight.

  • Synopsis (up to 1,200 words) Critique

    • Margin notes and in-line edits focusing on clarity and structure of the overall synopsis.

  • First Pages Critique (up to 5,000 words)

    • Margin notes and in-line edits focusing on the effectiveness of your opening chapters, as well as notes on character and plot development.

  • Note: This is a one-time critique that does not include an additional assessment of revised material, but follow-up questions are encouraged.

FULL MANUSCRIPT SERVICES: EMAIL FOR A QUOTE

EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT - Recommended for writers with a completed 1st or 2nd draft looking for Big Picture feedback on readability and direction.

  • Full read of the complete manuscript

  • 8-12 page editorial letter focusing on strengths and weaknesses of the full manuscript, including feedback and revision suggestions on character development, world-building, plot development, pacing, narrative structure, and overall writing.

  • A full in-line manuscript edit is not included in this service.

  • Follow-up material: Follow-up discussion (email) + the option to send a revision of your first chapter for an additional assessment.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT - Recommended for writers at a more advanced revision stage (including deciphering an R&R from an agent, polishing a manuscript to self-publish, agented authors with new projects, etc.).

  • Full read of the complete manuscript.

  • 6-10 page editorial letter focusing on overall strengths and weaknesses of the full manuscript, including feedback and revision suggestions on character development, world-building, plot development, pacing, narrative arc, and writing.

  • Revision suggestions on how to improve your writing on the sentence level, how to enhance your current strengths, and how to address any weaknesses in a way that best fits your own vision for the project.

  • In-line edits via Track Changes throughout manuscript that may offer structural changes, sentence-level edits, or examples that elaborate on the editorial letter. [Note: This does not include a full copyedit.]

  • Includes follow-up questions and an additional assessment of your revised first three chapters.
